What to know before arranging a visit
Access matters
Tell the provider whether the line is exposed, concealed in a wall or under the property, and whether it is still leaking. Location, material and access affect the assessment and the repair approach.
A repair or a larger project?
Repiping a home is a different job from fixing one leak. Ask why a targeted repair or wider replacement is recommended. Discuss service interruption, access, permits and restoration as part of the proposed scope.
Private line or utility problem?
Austin Water distinguishes its infrastructure from private-side lines and internal plumbing. If you are unsure which applies, review the official guidance linked in our homeowner guide before assuming a private contractor is responsible.
Freeze damage
Exposed, attic and exterior pipes are the most vulnerable in a hard freeze. See how often Austin drops to 32°F, 28°F and 20°F each winter in our Austin freeze statistics, and ask the provider whether other runs in the same area should be checked after a freeze break.
Ask for the complete quote.
Confirm the visit charge, proposed work, parts and exclusions before authorizing service.

Can a photo establish the price?
A photo can describe the problem but may not reveal access or hidden damage. The provider decides whether an on-site assessment is needed.
Will water be turned off?
Ask the provider to explain the isolation and expected service interruption before the job begins.
Does replacement include walls or floors?
Only if included in the agreed scope. Have plumbing work and restoration responsibilities stated clearly.
